MONROEVILLE - This past weekend, the Duquesne women's soccer team, along with the Norwin and Century United soccer clubs, hosted the 2nd annual TopSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) Day, which is an event that help special needs athletes. The TOPSoccer program is part of the United States Youth Soccer Association, the largest youth soccer organization in the country. Held at the Club4Life in Monroeville, the hour-and-a-half session was packed with fun activities and small-sided games.
TOPSoccer is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a mental or physical disability. The goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the US Youth Soccer family.
"What a great day it was today," said LouAnne Dawson, head administrator for the Norwin program. "We had some new children there and the Duquesne ladies made it so much fun that I think we might have a few more participants. Great job by everyone."
This fall season Norwin Soccer Club will be rasing the Volunteer Fee to $45. The primary purpose of the Volunteer Fee has alwys been to encourage all members to volunteer in the operation of the club. Norwin Soccer Club is a volunteer organization. As volunteerism increases, so does the efficiency of the Club.
As a club we pay to have many services preformed. Most are repetitious and time sensitive so a casual volunteer would not help. We will be finding new ways for the families to earn their check back and trying to give some lead notice so they can be available. The club monitors the the checks that are returned to the familes that so the work for the club. There has be a rise of the checks not returned for the past few seasons. With this increase the club is trying to stike an amount that will hopfully increase the number of checks and help with things around the club. As before we will be monioring the checks to see if future rasies will be needed.
